Parent Spotlight — Alexis is a mom of three from Kansas City working to ensure all Missouri families have access to quality child care!

Alexis is a mom from Kansas City who joined our ECE Leader Fellowship to broaden her understanding of early childhood advocacy. Alexis sees investing in early childhood care and education and supporting policies that focus on the quality of services as a critical component to addressing issues that greatly impact a person’s life and improving outcomes for all kids and families in our state. How did you become an advocate for early childhood education?

As a mother of 3 beautiful children, I understood early the importance of advocacy as it plays a critical role in cognitive, emotional, and social development.

Why do you think it’s important to be an advocate as a parent?

As a parent, I see the value in quality early education in shaping future success and well-being for children and societies.

Why should Missouri invest more in child care and early education?

Children who attend quality early education programs are more likely to have better health outcomes and higher graduation rates. This contributes to a healthier, more educated workforce in the future.

In one sentence, what does the ideal child care and early education system look like for Missouri families?

The ideal child care and early education system for Missouri families provides affordable, high-quality care that supports children’s development and enables parents to participate fully in the workforce.

What is one thing you’ve learned about advocacy that you’d like to share with others?

One important thing I’ve learned about advocacy is that persistence and clarity of message are key; staying committed to your cause and effectively communicating its importance can make a significant impact over time.
