Parent Spotlight: From Grandparent to Guardian, Niadu Shares Her Story of Advocacy

Why did you become an advocate for early childhood education?

After the death of my daughter in June 2021, I became the legal guardian of my 4 grandchildren. I was unaware of the shortage of early childhood educators as well as the lack of funding, that I knew I needed to participate by using my voice and story of the importance of ECE!

Why do you think it’s important to be advocate as a parent/guardian?

It is very important for parents to be involved in their children’s education as early as birth for the development of their well being including social, emotional, and psychological growth.

Why should Missouri invest more in early childcare and education?

The early years of growth for a child are very critical while they are developing. We need more programs in place to help those that may not be developing fully at their age.

In one sentence, what does the ideal early childcare and education systems look like for families in Missouri?

Allowing affordable and accessible childcare education starting as early as 3 years old.
