How did you become an advocate for early childhood education?

I have learned a lot over the course of my 29 years in the early childhood field but I had yet to get into advocacy. This fellowship opened up, and I was intrigued to learn more about the subject.

Why do you think it’s important to be an advocate as a provider?

I have learned that I am more than one person. I have been connected to some great like-minded people over this past year and, together, we can make a difference for our children.

Why should Missouri invest more in child care and early education?

Young children need a good foundation to set the stage for their future success. Investing in the early years can give families an option to choose quality. Quality care can make a difference in their development and kindergarten readiness. Helping families find and be able to afford child care supports the economy and workforce.

In one sentence, what does the ideal child care and early education system look like for Missouri families?

The ideal system looks like age-appropriate curriculum, small groups, and engaging activities provided by a trained, caring staff.

What is one thing you’ve learned about advocacy that you’d like to share with others?

All you need is passion. Anyone can get involved to represent their needs and views. Your story should be heard.
