How did you become an advocate for early childhood education?

Working in the early education field for over 20 years and having a grandson that was shaken by a sitter, I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact that quality care and learning have on a child’s development. I have seen how family support and strong early learning environments can change life trajectories and realize that speaking up, sharing experiences, and influencing policy are essential to ensuring that every child has the same opportunity to thrive.

Why do you think it’s important to be an advocate as a provider?

As a provider I have insight with firsthand knowledge of children’s needs, family challenges, and system gaps. This gives me the opportunity to have a powerful voice to influence policies, secure resources, and to create positive changes that will directly improve the quality of care and education for the children and families that I serve.

Why should Missouri invest more in child care and early education?

Missouri should invest more in early education and child care because it strengthens the entire state’s workforce by enabling caregivers to work, which boosts the economy through productivity, reduces long-term social costs, and ensures that our children enter schools healthy, prepared, and ready to succeed. This lays the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous future for every citizen.

In one sentence, what does the ideal child care and early education system look like for Missouri families?

The ideal child care and early education system would be accessible, affordable, high in quality, and culturally responsive, while providing safe, nurturing environments that will support each child’s development while working with families to provide lifelong success.

What is one thing you’ve learned about advocacy that you’d like to share with others?

Simply that every voice matters.
